In addition to completing these classes, all students must pass the CAHSEE exam for a diploma.
High School Graduation Requirements for Adults
In order to receive a high school diploma from Twin Rivers Adult School, a student must fulfill all of the following requirements:
- 200 credits required as follows:
- English 40 credits
- Science 20 credits
- Mathematics 20 credits
- Algebra 10 credits
- US History 10 credits
- World History 10 credits
- Economics 5 credits
- Civics 5 credits
- Arts or CTE 10 credits
- Electives 70 credits
- Pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)
- Adults may earn credits toward a high school diploma through alternative class structures, including independent study, online blended classes, and career and technical education classes.
- Adults may have specific credit requirements waived for work experience, or passing parts of the GED test. Adults may also transfer in high school classes, and postsecondary (college) classes. But all students must complete at least 5 credits through Twin Rivers Adult School. (See counselor for details.)
It is the student’s responsibility to submit a “Petition to Graduate” to the counselor upon completion of the high school requirements in order to graduate.
Multi-Subject Classrooms
Our multi-subject classes are designed to help students earn their high school diplomas, prepare for the California HS Exit Exam (CAHSEE) or GED exams. Students may also receive credits for verified work experience. Classes are self-paced. Teachers help individuals groups master math, reading, history, science and language arts skills.
Independent Study
Students who cannot attend during regular class hours take these popular alternative classes and earn their high school diplomas at home, while attending school 1 day per week. Students must meet certain academic standards to be eligible for Independent Study and Distance Learning Programs. Prior to enrollment, all candidates will be required to pass a qualifying assessment test. There is a deposit required of $20.00 for your book when you have your first appointment with your instructor. This is refundable upon the return of your book.
Credit Waivers and Alternative Credit Earning
Adults may earn credits toward a high school diploma through alternatives, which may include independent study, work experience, other instructional programs tailored to individual students’ needs, abilities, schedules. Further, specitic requirements may be waived if students pass parts of the GED exam. See an Adult School Counselor for details.
Virtual (Online) School
Twin Rivers Adult School is now offering a new fee based virtual/online learning system that allows students to gain credits by working with a credentialed teacher in-person in combination with using the Internet.
